Robert Gale, a friend of mine served on Carriers. I was aboard the USS Nimitz a few times and several others early in my career. Here is some praise worship music I think you might like. Just click on the CD music link. Tonight Mother and I enjoyed the movie, Nanny McFee, a very old fashioned comedy-romance movie. Tomorrow, we plan on worshipping at St Davids and going to Nehemiah House for the afternoon. Hope you all can enjoy the day. We will miss you.
http://www.hearthevoice.com/

Mother and I found these DVDs worthwhile. Each is about children and are stories- entertaining, educational and thought provoking- about relationships and hard lessons being learned by the grade school aged children

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19980120/REVIEWS/801200301/1023

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19990205/REVIEWS/902050301/1023

Just watched End of the Spear the last two nights (half and half) with Linda. EXCELLENT! We particularly appreciated the effort made to get into and communicate the tribal worldview, both with regards to the movie as a whole and with regards to the efforts themselves of communicating the Gospel to the Waogani people.

BTW we found this in the public library, along with the recent movie Luther--which we saw in the theatre in Singapore and likewise was impressed by.
It was a tear jerker, but we enjoyed "Love comes Softly", a romance movie based on a Jeanette Oake (sp?) story, last night and tonight another one called "Saint Ralph". It is a Rocky-type sports story with a "miraculous" twist and a very 1950's Catholic boys school background. A heart-touching, coming of age, comedy of sorts. When in Maryland, we enjoyed a very different type, thought-provoking movie with Will Ferrell, "Stranger than Fiction". It was not a comedy, but a rather serious story, raising questions about the process of creating characters in novels and the value of art vis-a-vis real life.

Mother and I rented the DVD, Shaun of the Dead. It was recommended as an hilarious comedy, a parody of the horror, zombie genre. Actually, the reviews I looked up concurred with the recommendation. Well,..............................

Trying to be good sports, we gave it a whirl. After about half an hour we had had enough- just not our kind of movie. But, we thought, we should really give it more time. Maybe all the guts and gore would become funny. So we turned it back on. Surprisingly, it did, in a way. The acting was good. A lot of language was bad. The characters and relationships were interesting. The sound track was appropriate. We could see it was a spoof, being played for laughs and we did. Ok. But then it got serious, which many comedies are wont to do for some reason. The fun oozed out on the floor, mixing with a lot of bodily fluids, as the main characters started to disappear into the mayhem. The story line improved, all seemed to end on a light note, but then concluded with a macabre scene, although probably funny to devotees of this kind of movie.
Tonight we watched an excited and disturbing true story of the conflict of a compassionate and wiley RC priest in Rome and the evil Commander of the Gestopo who controlled Rome during WWII. The Priest organized the escape of some 4000 prisoners of war and Jews. This is an amazing and deeply moving story, especially the very end.
